Aguas Teñidas Mines
Deep seismic survey
MATSA is a Spanish company affiliated with Mubadala Investment Company and Trafigura Group Pte Ltd. The company owns the operation rights of Aguas Teñidas Mines, Magdalena y Sotiel, in addition to a series of investigation permits in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula, in Faja Pirítica.
Matsa´s business activities deal with investigation and operation of mineral deposits and their handling at the processing plant, which the company has in Almonaster la Real. This plant currently has the capacity to process between 4,3 and 4,6 million tons per year.
Matsa decided to undertake a deep seismic geophysics survey for mineral mass characterization. This is not a usual technique in the area and is one which requires a specific type of explosives and strict geometric conditions in order to achieve quality results.
Working with an Australian geophysics company with world-class experts on these types of techniques, we came up with the best option for carrying out these jobs. As these were not a usual type of explosives used in Spain, it was necessary to manufacture them specifically for this job.
The process of obtaining permits to use the explosives in this survey was carried out by project management.
The survey was completed in 2017, obtaining the necessary data for the project´s later implementation.
